SHHS Boys’ Swim and Dive Team Making a Splash

The SHHS boys swim and dive team has officially dived into their season. At the mid-point of the season, the team is posting some impressive times and scores.  Despite losing almost half their team due to graduating seniors, the boys have not given up faith and are putting up a good fight against the rest of the league. The team has faced many obstacles and challenges since the beginning of the season such as winter storm delays and team members’ illnesses or injuries, but they have managed to push through the adversity and rely on the team spirit to swim their way through their tough season. Sophomore, Shawn Gagnon, shared his view on the team: “It has helped me gain friends. Team spirit is a good way to pump people up and help everyone feel like a part of a cohesive team.”  At this point, extraordinary swimmers on the team have qualified for states in their events, and the first ever female diver, senior, Shelbe Turner, has added to the team’s success. With a little bit over a month to prepare for the NVL championship and the state tournament, the members are more pumped than ever to improve in their personal times!  When asked about the progress of the swim and dive team, Hearts senior and a swim team captain, Adam Taylor, says, “This team so far has done more than I’ve expected with our small numbers, but our main goal is not to just win league meets but hopefully to dominate in NVLs and states.” As you can see, the team is pumped and ready to move forward into these next few, challenging weeks that will also bring them face to face with Sacred Heart’s rival, Holy Cross, on Tuesday, February 5th. With the NVL trails and finals right around the corner, the team has been preparing like crazy, and the members are ready to swim and to make a name for themselves!
